The purpose of the project is to prepare a commentary that gives readers the linguistic, formal, historical, biographical, and literary background necessary to read Pushkin's lyric poetry, the cornerstone of the Russian literary tradition. The work is intended not to replace a standard Russian commentary (which does not at present exist, though it is planned), but rather to complement it. It will cover all of Pushkin's mature lyrics and a sampling of the juvenilia. The intended readership is both students and teachers of Russian literature. |
