Revolutionary travelers crossed the permeable borders of the eighteenth-century Atlantic world. These itinerants, men and women, black and white, organized clubs in Warsaw and insurrections in Saint Domingue; they published journals exchanged between Leiden, Philadelphia, and Paris; and they congregated above printers' shops in London and community halls in Freetown to protest the slave trade. This history of Atlantic Revolution follows the travelers across four continents. It is organized not as a survey, but as a study of the documents these cosmopolitan revolutionaries left behind. |
