The goal of my project is to make further progress on a state-of-the-art catalogue of Greek medieval and Renaissance manuscripts in American libraries. A comprehensive, up-to-date, and modern catalogue is long overdue. I describe, analyze, classify, and compare all of the distinctive characteristics of Greek manuscripts. The catalogue entry system I use meets all contemporary requirements, and I have developed some innovative interpretive approaches. I view a manuscript as a product of a particular time, region, circle, and cultural and historical context. My analysis of scripts, decorations, notations, and production materials and techniques often establishes when, where, by whom, and under what circumstances a manuscript was produced and disseminated. This information will benefit scholars in many fields of the humanities--especially social and art history, philology and paleography, and philosophy and theology.
