Retirement migration is an overlooked field in U.S. immigration studies. Despite the fact that there are places in Mexico where Americans culturally and economically dominate local communities, no major scholarship exists on Americans who live in Mexico. Gringos Jubilados examines issues of retirement migration as they influence the vernacular cultural traditions in San Miguel de Allende. It explores why American retirees decide to move south, how they adapt to living in Mexico, and the cultural and economic consequences of their presence in the neighborhoods where they have settled.
