My project explores the imaginative dimension of Irish-Indian relationships in the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries through a consideration of three issues: relationships between Irish and Indian nationalists, the construction of Irishmen as British imperial heroes, and Irish nationalist commemoration of the mutiny of a regiment of Irish soldiers in India. My study will incorporate the perspective of Ulster Unionists as well as Irish and Indian nationalists.
