The project will reconfigure an undergraduate course, Kafka and His Readers, which studies the life, work and reception of one of the most influential writers of Modernism, Franz Kafka (1883-1924). Building on course interests in both what Kafka wrote and in his afterlife in historiographic and biographical texts, in contemporary fiction and in the visual arts, the project explores the latest writing on Kafka as well as the engagement of archivists, publishers, curators, translators and filmmakers in the proliferation of Kafka. The project seeks to contextualize this new content with and against questions of how research in the humanities is conducted, what it hopes to show and how students contribute to that work. It will make use of students' existing skills in digital technology and networking and present course material in interactive online learning environments that will feature modules on the scholarship and artistic production surrounding the course Kafka and His Readers.
