Planning for a traveling exhibition, a smaller mobile museum version, and a low-security exhibit, on the Civil War events in Virginia as representative of the larger national experience.

The Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission seeks a Chairman's Special Award Planning Grant to support the development of a three-component exhibition entitled An American Turning Point: The Civil War in Virginia. The exhibition will consist of a two-part gallery exhibit (home front and battlefront) as well as a mobile museum and low-security version for travel to underserved communities in Virginia and other states. Each will tell a fair and balanced story of African-American, Union and Confederate individuals during the Civil War. Virginia leads the nation in establishing a commission to plan for the sesquicentennial and is proud to offer a compelling story of national importance and serve as a model to other states that are looking to Virginia for guidance in planning commemorative activities.
