Planning for multisensory interpretive elements at three historic houses in Weeksville, an historic African-American community.

The Society for the Preservation of Weeksville and Bedford-Stuyvesant History a.k.a. Weeksville Heritage Center (WHC) will plan and design multi-sensory interpretive elements that will enhance visitors' experiences during the historic Hunterfly Road Houses tours. This Interpreting America's Historic Places project will enliven WHC's themes of sanctuary, self-sufficiency, self-determination and activism by adding touch objects and soundscapes to the existing house interpretation and fully incorporating their use into related educational materials. This planning project will create more inviting and accessible tours for a broader range of community members and will take place from April 2011 - March 2012.
