Planning of a traveling exhibition and cultural programming on Muslim worlds.

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan (CMOM)—a leading provider of cultural and educational experiences for families since 1973—respectfully requests a grant of $75,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)’s America’s Historical and Cultural Organizations program to plan an ambitious and important new museum exhibition and cultural programming series entitled, Muslim Worlds. The goal of Muslim Worlds is to expand Americans’ knowledge of the diversity of Muslim cultures, and the role of Muslim societies as active participants in the global flow of people, ideas and materials. Utilizing a wide range of humanities resources, this project will be the first of its kind to explore the breadth and depth of Muslim cultures worldwide for a family audience in the US. The request to the NEH is for a 12-month period of concept development, research and evaluation (October 2011-September 2012) that will follow a privately funded preliminary planning phase which began in 2010.
