Implementation of a long-term multimedia visitor immersion experience for families about the mixed social and political responses of southern Indiana to an actual Confederate cavalry raid.

Conner Prairie Interactive History Park requests $400,000 for 1863 Civil War Journey: Raid on Indiana, a dramatic immersion into history that uses a unique combination of technology and first-person interpretation presented in a natural environment to allow visitors, particularly families, to play roles in a historic event. The new experience will foster learning and inspire curiosity about how citizens responded to and were impacted by General John Hunt Morgan's Confederate cavalry raid into Indiana in July 1863 and how the cultural and political complexities of the Indiana Civil War impacted the response on the home front. Submitted as a Family and Youth Programs in American History project, Conner Prairie is uniquely positioned to implement this new experience in June 2011, at a time when public interest in the subject will be heightened due to the Civil War Sesquicentennial.
