Implementation of a traveling exhibition, a publication, a website, and programs on the unfolding of the American Revolution in the Midwest, especially its impact on the formation of cultural identities.

The Missouri History Museum seeks an implementation grant to support the creation of "The American Revolution on the Frontier," the first major exhibition ever to focus on the events of the American Revolution between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River. Four major cultural institutions already invested in telling the story of the Revolution have joined our efforts to re-examine a fundamental chapter in our national narrative through a 6,000-square-foot exhibition, scheduled to open in St. Louis in 2014 and to travel to four additional venues. A companion book, electronic field trips, and a web site will bring the exhibition story to millions more. The goal of the project is to remind North Americans of a once-iconic story that has been largely forgotten in recent years. The exhibition will reflect the complexity and ambiguity of a multi-faceted cultural conflict that played a major role in shaping our nation's identity.
