The collection of stories, using a public forum, and other public programming, on Midwestern experiences related to new African immigrants.

By harnessing the power of compelling stories, local communities will engage in important, and perhaps difficult, conversations about the challenges and opportunities surrounding recent demographic and cultural shifts in mid-America. A team of humanities experts will facilitate and collect stories to meet the need for meaningful public discussions about Midwestern experiences related to new African immigrants. Following a public forum and teleconference on migration stories in the Midwest, community programming will include humanities workshops in storytelling, poetry, theatre, and visual art that will produce knowledge in approachable forms to be shared with a wider national audience via digital media. Educational resources and additional activities with local partners about stories of immigration will increase understanding across civic and cultural divides and help overcome obstacles that prevent immigrants and host communities from coming together for the common good.
