Graduate education in the conservation of art and material culture collections.

The Conservation Center of the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University requests funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities of $265,719 to support a two year education and training program, Training the 21st-Century Conservator, that will help implement important curricular changes at the Center. Specifically, the program will augment and strengthen two different areas of the curriculum: the development and implementation of the new set of core courses that teach the fundamentals of theory and practice that every conservator should know, and of a set of courses that aim to develop young conservators of modern and contemporary art. The program is designed to foster critical thinking, research and treatment skills, collaborative approaches, and a heightened interest in contextual issues.
