A regional preservation field service program that provides preservation surveys, workshops, and educational materials to libraries, archives, and historical organizations in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Rocky Mountain and Western Plains regions, as well as U.S. jurisdictions in the Caribbean, reaching up to 300,000 individuals.

LYRASIS proposes to provide preservation field services for organizations in its membership region that hold and provide access to humanities collections and resources. The project will provide education and training, consulting expertise, reference support and information resources to raise awareness of preservation issues, strengthen preservation needs assessment and planning, and improve preservation policies and practices. Project activities will meet the needs of different types and sizes of institutions, but will focus especially on preservation within the context of small and mid-size libraries, archives, historical societies, and museums. These institutions hold extensive and valuable paper, audio, video, photographic and digital collections acquired over many years to support education, research, and public programming in the humanities.
