Installation of a fire alarm system in the museum's North Wing, which contains permanent galleries for American and Asian art, as well as storage for metals, jewelry, works of art on paper, furniture, and textiles.

The Newark Museum seeks a $175,000 grant to underwrite the purchase and installation of a new Fire Alarm system for the Museum's North Wing, which showcases for the public the majority of the Museum's permanent art galleries including the American Art collection on the 1st and 2nd floors, the Asian Art collection on the 3rd floor, and the storage of collection materials such as metals, jewelry, paper, furniture and textiles from the American, Asian, African and Decorative Arts collections. The Museum currently leases a 1987 ADT Unimode Fire Alarm System that has become obsolete As the collections are the foundation for all humanities activities in service to constituencies in New Jersey and beyond, the protection of these materials is of paramount importance for ensuring that they remain accessible to public audiences.
