A general preservation assessment of the book and manuscript collections of the Martin Franklin Hanley House, a historic house museum and farmstead in Clayton, Missouri.

The Hanley House will employ conservator, Richard C. Baker, to perform a conservation assessment of the Hanley House humanities collection and prepare a report on his reccommendations. Mr. Baker will focus his assessment and report on the 38 Hanley family books and the over 40 books purchased by an antique dealer during the 1970 restoration, 175 photographs, and 470 pages of manuscripts including legal documents and family letters. The humanities collection, comprising the books, photographs, and manuscripts of the Hanley family, are rich in their description of antebellum and post Civil War St. Louis. The collection provides rich details as it documents the Hanley family's essential role in the founding of the City of Clayton while illuminating the family's interests, hobbies and industry in rural Missouri. The project will begin January 2008, and will be completed July 2008.
