Completion of the Dolley Madison Digital Edition and launch of The Women of the Founding Era, extending documentary editions of the Founding Fathers to the women of the era in an electronic format. (36 months)

This grant will enable the completion of the path-breaking Dolley Madison Digital Edition (DMDE) and launch The Women of the Founding Era (WFE). The WFE will extend the scholarship of the documentary editions of the Founding Fathers to the women of the Founding Era, and do so in an innovative electronic format, based on the model of the DMDE. It will span fifty years of American history and two generations of Americans who participated in the Revolution and established the new Republic. The letters of these women are currently scattered across numerous public and private repositories. This project will publish their correspondence in a manner fully compliant with TEI standards and will include background, contextualizing, materials.
