To complete annotations, glossary entries, proofreading, introductory material, and other editorial tasks for an edition of the law papers of the influential early American judge and legal scholar St. George Tucker (1752-1827), best known for his edition of Blackstone's Commentaries. (24 months)

This is a two-volume edition of the law papers of St. George Tucker (1752-1827), and influential figure in American law known for his edition of Blackstone's Commentaries. The edition consists principally of Tucker's reports of cases in the courts of Virginia, 1786-1811, a period in which he served as judge of the General Court and of the court of appeals. It will also include Tucker's reports of cases in the U.S. District Court and U.S. Circuit Court, 1813-1824, when he was a judge of those courts. Tucker's reports, along with an extensive collection of loose papers, are preserved in the Tucker-Coleman Collection at William and Mary. They have never been published. The goal of the grant period is to complete substantive preparation of the edition.
