John Duns Scotus (1265-1308) was one of the most brilliant philosopher-theologians in the Middle Ages, whose lectures on the Sentences at Paris have never been critically edited. For the purpose of the present grant, our project will be to edit Scotus's Reportatio Parisiensis IV-A and IV-B, distinctions 1-15, publishing each of the versions in book format with the renowned European book publisher, Brepols. The texts will, furthermore, eventually become available electronically in the Library of Latin Texts-Series B on the Brepols website. The proposed critical edition will be an invaluable tool for medievalists, philosophers, theologians, historians and historians of science. Furthermore, in light of the use by subsequent followers and critics of Scotus's philosophical and theological ideas of Scotus's Parisian Commentaries on the Sentences, scholars working in early modern philosophy are also interested in receiving critical texts of these works. |
