(36 months)
Funding is sought for the last three years of a five-year program of archaeological excavation and survey at the prehistoric settlement of Mitrou, Greece. It is our aim to study the formative and fully developed stages of Mycenaean palatial society--the first state-level society on the European continent--and to understand better its disintegration at the end of the Bronze Age and in the Early Iron Age. Mitrou provides excellent opportunities for our investigation, having considerable remains from all these periods. Our project is a collaboration between the University of Tennessee and the Greek Archaeological Service (14th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities at Lamia). |
