Doctor Ehsan Yarshater, Director of the Center for Iranian Studies at Columbia University requests a Chairman's Grant to support completion of the Index for the annotated English translation of the 11th-century Tarikh-I Mas'udi chronicle by Abu'l-Fazl Bayhaqi. This work is a history of Persia under the Ghaznavid rule (963-1187), the best known and most accurate history in Persian of what is now Eastern Iran, Afghanistan, and modern Pakistan. The Bayhaqi History has been translated previously only into Arabic and Russian. This English translation will be published in three volumes, approximately 500 pages each, by the Persian Heritage Foundation. |
