Production of four one-hour radio programs and a companion website profiling significant figures in the history of religious and ethical thought world wide.

American Public Media respectfully requests a two-year grant of $122,967 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to extend and amplify Speaking of Faith’s existing NEH-funded work in the area of historical biography. Speaking of Faith (SoF) is public radio’s acclaimed weekly national program providing thoughtful, in-depth coverage of issues relating to religion, meaning, ethics, and ideas. To date, SoF’s biographical series has contributed to a deeper understanding of the role of belief and spirituality in the work and legacy of diverse, influential historical figures. The current series consists of seven programs that already have been produced and broadcast. These programs profile a distinct range of people: Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Rumi, Abraham Joshua Heschel, Aimee Semple McPherson,Reinhold Niebuhr, and Hunkpapa Lakota chief Tatanka Iyotanka.
