Development of two one-hour scripts for an eight-part film series to be broadcast nationally, with a companion radio series on National Public Radio and an accompanying website that would examine the history of Latino Americans through the lens of immigration.

"The Latino Americans" will be an eight-hour film series, the chronicle of the arrival and lives of Latinos in the United States in the last 200 years -- a story of people, politics and culture from 1800-2008. WETA, the Washington, DC PBS station, will join forces with Latino Public Broadcasting to co-produce this project. The series will be created for national PBS broadcast, with a companion radio series on National Public Radio (NPR), and will include a major outreach and promotional campaign. All programs and outreach will also be distributed via Spanish language media (broadcast, radio and web) to connect with Latino communities nationwide.

Production of the first two one-hour episodes of a six-part television series examining the history of Latino Americans, accompanied by a radio series and a website.

The Latino Americans will be a six-hour film series, the chronicle of the arrival and lives of Latinos in the United States in the last 200 years -- a story of people, politics, and culture from 1800 to 2000.?? It is a long and diverse story, as any history of the immigration of a major population and its aftermath must be -- especially a story that hopes to describe what the U.S. Census now counts as the largest ethnic bloc in the United States. Immigration is at the heart of American experience and our series intersects much that is central to that history including Manifest Destiny, the Wild West and multiple wars (including Mexican-American, Spanish-American and World War II). With most Americans unfamiliar with this history, The Latino Americans will be a landmark media event that is long overdue.
