Our project, Picturing America_Picturing New York: Looking at American History and Geography through Iconic Art, targets America's largest school system with more than 1.1 million students, 80,000 teachers and over 1,300 schools. In partnership with the New-York Historical Society (N_YHS), the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA), the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) will plan and present two Picturing America_Picturing New York all_day conferences during the Fall 2010_Spring 2011 school year. The first conference will be held in October 2010. It will be entirely devoted to exploration of the Picturing America portfolio and at least 200 educators will participate. The culminating conference will take place in April 2011. It will focus primarily on the PA collection, but also provide a forum for developing the six Picturing America themes through local NY City resources_Picturing NY. |
