To support "North Dakota Reads," the Council's reading and discussion program, by adding new nonfiction titles including readings related to President Abraham Lincoln and the impact of the Homestead Act of 1862, grants for scholars to lead reading and discussion programs, and presentations by North Dakota-born historian James McPherson in the fall of 2008.

We the People funds will support North Dakota Reads, the highly successful reading and discussion program facilitated by scholars. New nonfiction titles will be added to the reading list, including those relating to President Lincoln and the impact of the Homestead Act of 1862. A portion of the WTP grant will fund small regrant requests for scholars to lead discussions statewide, and a portion will support presentations by ND-born historian James McPherson in the fall of 2008.
