Funding will support an array of programs that explore the question of what it means to be an American in the Nation's Capital. Programs include: a week-long leadership program for 40 low-income high school students; an international symposium to explore the city's unique historical and international role; public discussions; and television programming.

The Humanities Council of Washington DCs diverse programming creates educational, humanities-based experiences throughout the city that explore American ideals within a unique Washington context. The Council strives to form unique partnerships within the community to further the humanities presence in the city. The Council's years of experience with diverse programming initiatives; established community partnerships and a successful humanities presence in Washington, allows the Council to be well poised to develop and manage a range of successful humanities programs benefitting all the residents of Washington DC
