To support the Eighth Annual South Dakota Festival of the Book in Sioux Falls which will focus on immigration with Dave Eggers, author of the One Book South Dakota selection" What is the What." It will also support the Authors in the Schools program and National History Day in South Dakota.

SDHC seeks funding for the Eighth Annual South Dakota Festival of Books. Dave Eggers, author of the One Book South Dakota selection, What is the What, will be headlining. He will be joined by 40 to 45 other authors who will explore significant events and themes in American history and culture through tracks in history and tribal writers, poetry, fiction, children's, nonfiction, and writers' support. The 2010 immigration theme is interspersed through all tracks. The Authors in the Schools program bookends the festival and provides additional opportunities for South Dakota students (K through college, as well as at other community venues) to explore America's defining principles. 4,000 to 5,000 visitors are expected at the weekend festival in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Several thousand additional students will benefit from the Authors in the Schools program. Some funds will be used to support National History Day in South Dakota, a program that SDHC began to work with in 2008-2009.
