Two-year pilot testing of a National History Competition for elementary and middle-school students to determine whether such a competition has the potential to be offered on a national scale.

The purpose of the project is to create and evaluate a two-year pilot program for a National American History Competition for middle-school students, grades 6-8. The pilot program has the potential to grow into a multi-million dollar national competition down the road. Dr. Peter Gibbon, the principal investigator, will lead a consortium comprising the Boston University School of Education, the National Council for History Education, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, and the National History Club to accomplish the goals of this pilot program. The principal consultants for this project would be Dr Bill Ross of the National Council for History Education in Westlake, Ohio, and Dr. John Patrick, Professor Emeritus at Indiana University, Bloomington. Meetings of the three will occur in Westlake, Ohio and Bloomington, Indiana.
