Three one-week workshops for 135 elementary and middle school teachers to study America's industrial revolution in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The Tsongas Industrial History Center at UMASS Lowell will use the landmark resources of Lowell National Historical Park, Old Sturbridge Village, and Concord museums to offer three “Inventing America: Lowell and the Industrial Revolution” teacher institutes for 135 teachers in the summer of 2006. We will use UMASS Lowell’s internet technology for pre-institute orientation and follow-up. Teachers will submit teaching lessons using sources and strategies prepared by scholars, staff and master teachers. To extend the Institute, we will post teacher lesson plans on the Institute website and offer “electronic virtual visits” to Lowell National Historical Park/Tsongas Industrial History Center for students of teachers attending the Institute.
