Planning for the enhanced interpretation of Montpelier, the home of James Madison.

The Montpelier Foundation seeks support from NEH to broaden the interpretation of Montpelier to include a deeper understanding of James Madison's role in the creation of the U.S. Constitution. The goal is to develop a meaningful and engaging core visitor experience, employing technology and creative interpretive techniques to fully realize the educational potential of Montpelier as the home of James Madison, "Father of the Constitution," and a place important to America's founding. With NEH support, Foundation staff will work with Montpelier's Interpretation Advisory Committee (IAC), a volunteer peer review body of experts and constitutional scholars; an exhibit planning firm; and a professional evaluation and research specialist. A collaborative process will allow for review and adjustment of Montpelier's interpretive programs, including guide training, based on committee members' areas of expertise, professional advice, and visitor feedback.
