Jesus T. Piñero Library
Construction of the Jesús T. Piñero Library and Social Research Center.
Universidad del Este (UNE) at Carolina requests a $500,000 grant in response to the National Endowment for the Humanities, Challenge Grants (20110504-CH) to support a onetime humanities related cost: the construction of the First Phase of the Jesús T. Piñero Library of the Institution ($2,700,000). The funds will be spent directly on one-time capital costs for items that have inherent longevity since it is a new construction; SHPO’s eligibility determination is included in an appendix. As established by the guidelines, the UNE will raise two times the amount of the federal funds offered by the NEH from nonfederal sources of support. With the construction of this Library the UNE will bring long term benefits to the institution and to the humanities more broadly by providing additional Humanities focused resources to the academic and scholar community and to its School of Social and Human Sciences.
