A two-week institute for twenty college faculty members to study the visual legacy of the medieval and early modern periods of East Slavic history.

The NYPL will host a two-week summer Institute for undergraduate and graduate school faculty to assist them in analyzing, interpreting, and contextualizing the extraordinary corpus of East Slavic visual images collected at the Library over more than a century. The Institute will provide an opportunity for historians, art historians, and library curators to discover and learn about methods and approaches for interpreting and analyzing visual material as historical sources. By exploring methods for using visual sources as historical and social evidence, the Institute will create a synergism that will lead to further research using such collections, publicizing these resources to faculty, students, and the general public.
