Moscow Conceptualism was arguably the most innovative and significant postmodern artistic and literary trend of the late Soviet period (mid-1970s to 1990s). Its focus was to examine the effect of ideological and other stereotypical images and language on the Soviet mind by assembling them into works which reveal and critique established the patterns of everyday thought lying just below the surface of consciousness. The works range in profile and intent from parody to mysticism. The project will result in a book devoted to a detailed examination of the context and major artists and writers in the movement, incl. Kabakov, Bulatov, Komar & Melamid, Prigov, Rubinshtein, Monastyrsky, Sorokin.
