The analysis focuses on specific historical moments, primarily within the period 1500-1800, to explore issues that resonate in the present day relations among these countries: the role of Confucianism in structuring interstate and individual interactions; processes of cultural adaptation; and arenas of interstate conflict, ranging from diplomacy to war.
