I am applying for a grant to support the editing and annotation of the diaries of Caroline Drayton Phillips (1880-1965), wife of diplomat William Phillips (1878-1968). Caroline Phillips was also President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's second cousin and a close personal friend of First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and her diaries offer new insights into their lives and the Roosevelt administration, including her husband's work as F.D.R.'s Undersecretary of State and Ambassador to Mussolini's Italy. Her diaries have never been published and they are a rich source of information about world history.
