This reassessment of the roles of author and audience in the production and performance of Old English poetry will explore the dynamics of anonymous poetic creation in Anglo-Saxon England, the use of poetry outside of manuscripts, interactions with Old Saxon poems and audiences, and Old English poetry in the eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth centuries. Considerations of texts usually excluded from the canon of Old English poetry will allow a new perspective on Old English literary history.
