I seek support for uninterrupted time to write a 100,000 word Introduction to Victorian Poetry, for which I have an advance contract from Cambridge University Press. This book will synthesize the field for a new generation of undergraduates while arguing to scholars that Victorian poetry is most productively approached in terms of print culture. E.g., mass-circulation of periodicals assured wide readership of poetry, ample publishing opportunities for poets, and the intersection in print of poetry with key social and literary debates. The book is organized around “Form(s) of Victorian Poetry,” “The Rhetoric of Victorian Poetry,” and “Guided Readings.”
