Edmund Husserl is still one of the most important and seminal philosophers of our times. He enjoyed considerable success as a professor during the first decades of the 20th century. The ideas that he taught took hold and shaped the course of European philosophy. I am applying for a fellowship to translate and prepare for publication a volume of his lecture courses entitled Logic and General Theory of Science, Lectures 1917/18, with supplementary texts from the first draft 1910/11. These lectures show that Husserl tangled long and hard with the very ideas that went into the making of mainstream American philosophy and are still under discussion in the US today. They also show him clearly drawing the epistemological and metaphysical lines between those ideas and his phenomenology. The final product would be published by Springer Publishers. The readers would include philosophy professors, students, and others wishing to familiarize themselves with the problems with which Husserl dealt. |
