American Transcendentalism and Its Impact
To study American Transcendentalism--its background, rise and decline, with an emphasis on Thoreau and Emerson. The seminar will also examine minor transcendentalists and the impact of transcendentalism on 20th century figures as varied as Charles Ives, Robert Frost, and Martin Luther King.
