Introducing the Tibetan World and Thought of Mipam (1846-1912)

Mipam (1846-1912) is one of the most prolific figures in the history of Tibet and his works continue to be widely studied across the Tibetan cultural region and beyond. Mipam shaped the trajectory of the Nyingma school, a Buddhist tradition from Tibet that traces its history back to the early transmission of Buddhism from India in the eighth century. He is an influential figure in this tradition, and in terms of the breadth and depth of his writings, he is in a class of his own. Next summer I plan to finish the last section of my book, "Introducing the Tibetan World and Thought of Mipam," which will be a 200-page introduction to the life, works, and cultural world of Mipam. I have already finished a complete draft of the book, and plan to complete the last section, which contains a sample of Mipam’s writings in translation. I plan to expand and revise the final section at the Larung Gar monastic college in Sichuan, China, where Mipam’s texts comprise about 25% of the curriculum.
