The Historical Society of Pennsylvania is requesting support to plan a curated and interactive website that will allow users to explore a deeply layered microhistory of the Underground Railroad through the actions of one of its most important actors, William Still. Specifically, HSP will plan and create, in collaboration with a team of advisors (humanities experts and educators), a prototype for a larger website that will guide users through two essential documents, William Still's manuscript Journal C and his published book, "The Underground Railroad," to tell the story of the extraordinary history of the flight to freedom. This project will weave together transcripts and digital facsimiles of these documents through links to biographies, graphics, and other contextual materials, as well as to maps that allow users to visualize paths of flight and the networks of people involved with the covert organization. |
