Museum Without Walls: Audio
Implementation of a multiplatform interpretive audio program for 36 outdoor sculptures in Philadelphia.
The Fairmount Park Art Association seeks a $198,820 grant for Museum Without Walls: AUDIO, a multi-platform interpretive program for Philadelphia's preeminent collection of public art. This innovative program invites passersby to stop, look, listen, and experience public art through professionally produced 3-4 minute audio segments that reveal the compelling histories of Philadelphia's cultural treasures. Instead of a single authoritative guide or narrator, every speaker is an "authentic voice" -- people from all walks of life who are connected to the sculpture by knowledge, experience, or a related thematic or civic connection. Phase One of the program, launched in June 2010 with 35 audio programs, was developed in part with the support of a planning grant from the NEHs We the People initiative. Implementation funding from the NEH will support Phase Two of Museum Without Walls: AUDIO, which will include development of an additional 36 audio programs.
