The New-York Historical Society (N-YHS) respectfully requests a Chairman's Special Award from the NEH in support of "Chinese American: Exclusion/Inclusion," a major interpretive exhibition and educational initiative with a national and international traveling component. The exhibit will investigate the question: "What does it mean to be an American" through an exploration of the Chinese American experience. Spanning over 200 years of history and anchored around the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, this exhibition will present a richly woven narrative and raise questions about how we as Americans might reckon with this largely unknown and unrepresented past. The exhibition, along with a robust suite of educational activities, public programs, digital resources, a companion book, and collaborative efforts planned with partner institutions, will reach an estimated 400,000 individuals. |
