The Power of Children: Making a Difference

Implementation of a permanent exhibition examining key events in the 20th century through the lives of three children whose individual lives made a difference: Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges, and Ryan White.

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis (TCM) is requesting $350,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to develop a permanent exhibit entitled "The Power of Children: Making a Difference." The exhibit will feature three immersive settings depicting historical events and people from the 20th century. Designed to link the past, present and future, "The Power of Children" exhibit will compel visitors to: (1) confront the past through an exploration of events in history, (the Holocaust, Civil Rights Movement and the beginning of the AIDS epidemic); (2) explore the lives of children who were affected by the events (Anne Frank, Ruby Bridges and Ryan White); and (3) discover how the legacies of historical events and people can inspire children today to fight discrimination and intolerance. Scheduled to open in October 2007, the total budget for "The Power of Children" is $6 million: $3 million for capital costs and $3 million for endowment.
