The project will use a professional document conservator to visit the Barnard College Archives to conduct a treatment assessment of 18 archival scrapbooks. Total collection is 27; the other 9 were previously examined in 2004. Contents include photographs, handwritten letters, clippings, and ephemera documenting the academic and social culture at Barnard from 1901-1947; intercollegiate activities; social movements such as women's suffrage; and women's service during WWI and WWII. The conservator will spend up to 2.5 days on site, measuring, analyzing, and evaluating the scrapbooks. S/he will spend 1 day writing a conservation assessment report that will support future grant proposals for the conservation and microfilming of the scrapbooks. |
