The continued creation of a union catalog of pre-1877 North American imprints (NAIP.) In this phase, 2,000 titles published from 1831 through 1840 would be cataloged, records for 600 pre-1801 imprints and for 300 19th-century juvenile titles would be created, and 900 existing records for juvenile titles would be enhanced.

This proposal seeks funding to continue the work of the North American Imprints Program (NAIP). NAIP's long-term goal is the creation of a machine-readable union catalog of pre-1877 US and Canadian books, pamphlets, and broadsides. With this funding, NAIP staff will 1) continue work on the decade 1831-1840, cataloging 2,000 titles in AAS collections not previously canvassed; 2) read several recent biblographies against the NAIP file, adding citations to the NAIP records and creating an estimated 600 new records for pre-1801 imprints; and 3) create 300 new records and enhance 900 existing acquisition-level records for 19th-century juvenile titles held by AAS. All three efforts advance work in areas begun under previous NEH grants.
