The Department of Art at Colorado State University will contract a paper conservator and object conservator to develop detailed plans for rehousing the department's permanent collection, with attention to collection focus areas of Japanese prints, 20th-century works on paper, and African art and artifacts. The consultants will address two phases: 1) short-term interim improvements for the existing temporary storage spaces at the Visual Arts Building; 2) floor plan and equipment plan for the permanent collection storage areas at the new University Center for the Arts, a multi-media complex located in a renovated historic building, due to open to the public in 2008-2009. The permanent humanities collections consist of approximately 3,000 objects used in exhibitions, art history classes, school outreach, traveling exhibitions, and for hands-on connoisseurship and research. The grant will assist the Department in fulfilling its mission to collect, preserve, exhibit and interpret art work. |
