The goal of this project is to develop a plan for preserving the library's archival and manuscript holdings and to assess the conservation treatment needs of items in these collections. The preservation of these collections will preserve a key historical perspective on the New England maritime life of men and women during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The staff will develop additional expertise in preserving photographs and scrapbooks by attending relevant workshops at Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC). Also, by attending a NEDCC digitization workshop appropriate resources will be selected for digitizing (Phase Two), which ultimately will provide greater access to these collections through the Internet. |
