General Preservation Assessment of the Central Rappahannock Heritage Center

A general preservation assessment of manuscripts, documents, photographs, drawings, maps, books, and deeds, wills, death certificates and other vital records related to the history of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and surrounding area from the 1720s to the 1990s.

The heritage center proposes hiring a consultant to conduct a general preservation assessment. The consultant will review the center's written policies and procedures, conduct an on-site visit to assess the condition of the collections, and prepare a written preservation plan. The center houses numerous documents, court records, maps, about 5,500 photographs, and 1,425 books related to the grassroots history of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Stafford, and Spotsylvania, dating from the early 18th to the 21st centuries. Guided by archival experts on its board of directors, the center was established in 1997 and now occupies a 2,000-square-foot facility. Its mission is to provide a repository for historically valuable documents on our region and a center for students of our history.
