Purchase of preservation supplies to rehouse two collections of archival records documenting immigration and land use in Rockland County, New York, from the early 1800s through the twentieth century.

Rockland County located 30 miles northwest of New York City maintains a diverse population of approximately 294,636 residents. The County was established in 1798 and retains records from its first year of existence. Two records series have been identified as priorities for preservation because of their historical and research value, their use as primary resources by genealogists, researchers and the public and their overall fragile condition. Naturalization records (1812-1991) include declaration of intentions, petitions and all related documents for over 40,000 naturalized citizens. Official maps, surveys and reports (1807-1960) consist of 15,000 mostly oversize maps and surveys that document land ownership and development. These documents are frequently accessed by title searchers, researchers and property owners. The Rockland County Archives is requesting funds to purchase acid free storage boxes, roll tubes and folders for these valuable collections.
